Dan Cole scored his third international try as England completed a historic series whitewash in Australia with a 44-40 victory in the third and final Test.

Leicester Tigers prop Cole collected an offload from Ben Youngs to power over from close range for the first try in a pulsating game in Sydney.

“I thought Dan Cole was absolutely outstanding in the third Test,” England head coach Eddie Jones told the Press Asociation.

“I got a text from an old Italian hooker saying he was the series MVP. I think he might have been a bit biased, but Dan was outstanding. The scrum gave us significant advantage at certain times.

“He’s improved his game enormously in general. The boys were just watching the replay of his try and were laughing, but he’s just improved.”

New Tigers signing Matt Toomua, playing at centre, had a hand in Australia’s first try, providing the final pass for Bernard Foley to score.

Mike Brown also crossed for England with Dane Haylett-Petty touching down for the Wallabies as the hosts led by a point at half-time.

Toomua produced a wonderful break and pass to set up Israel Folau for a second-half try, but Billy Vunipola and Jamie George scored for England and the kicking accuracy of Owen Farrell saw England home to secure a 3-0 series win.
