DMU students bag tickets with Welford

Leicester Tigers club mascot Welford was out and about at De Monfort University earlier this week as part of the club partner’s DMU Takeover Day at this weekend’s Gallagher Premiership fixture against Wasps.

Students across campus posed for a ‘welfie’ and bagged free tickets to the game on Saturday, March 2 (3.00pm) as DMU hosts its annual Takeover Day at Welford Road.

Welford made his way to The Watershed to meet members of the rowing and basketball teams before taking to the water and shooting hoops with students.

The mascot also put his deadlifting to the test, before sitting down with business marketing students for a lecture.

Students in the Food Village jumped at the chance to have a snap with Welford whilst they were enjoying their lunch jumping behind the food counter to help serve.

The DMU Takeover Day will welcome the De Monfort University Gospel Choir and Cheerleading Society, who will be performing ahead of the game and at half-time at Welford Road.

We’ll also welcome a local U15s rugby team to take part in the De Monfort University Ultimate Big Boot Challenge at half-time, which tests challengers catching skills with the chance to top the season’s leaderboard as well as bag £1,000 if teams catch all 10 balls.

Supporters will also be able to grab free t-shirts and take part in a group picture at the DMU stall on the plaza outside the Holland & Barrett Stand.

Students based at De Monfort University are encouraged to come and meet Welford on Monday, February 25 for a selfie and the chance to grab tickets to a Tigers home game.

De Monfort University Men’s and Women’s rugby union teams will also have the chance to play at Welford Road in their annual Varsity fixture against the University of Leicester on March, 6.

Tickets for this year’s Varsity fixture can be purchased via each universities Student Union or from the Tigers ticket office on the evening of March 6.
