England, the defending Six Nations champions, have been training this week at West Park Leeds in readiness for the opening game of the defence of their title, against Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday, February 4.
And Croft says: “Camp is very good. There are a lot of new boys coming into the squad and bringing a lot of energy in.
“It’s a fresh team, it’s a fresh coaching staff and it’s exciting times for England.”
Croft is one of the members of Lancaster’s senior leadership group, and has been tipped in some quarters to follow in the footsteps of former Tigers teammates Martin Corry and Lewis Moody and captain his country.
“I have always said that to captain any team is a massive honour,” Croft told Talking Rugby. “If you are given it you take it with both hands and go forward with it.
“There are plenty of boys who have those leadership qualities, who have captained their sides already or have that spark that the boys will follow.
“Whoever is chosen, the boys will follow and we will go forward.”
