Under-10s teams across the country are being invited to take part in this season's Prima Tiger Cup for the chance to play at the world-famous home of the Leicester Tigers.
Supported by Loughborough-based Prima Solutions, the Prima Tiger Cup is open to all under-10s teams and features five festivals around the Tigers region culminating in a series of games at Welford Road.
The Prima Tiger Cup will kick off at Tamworth RFC in Staffordshire on Sunday, October 19 as teams try to follow in the foot steps of last year’s winners Haywards Heath in West Sussex.
There will also be festivals at Swaffham RFC in Norfolk on Sunday, October 26, Lutterworth RFC on Sunday, November 2, Mellish RFC in Nottinghamshire on Sunday, November 9 and Newmarket RFC in Suffolk on Sunday, November 16.
The top teams from each festival will be invited to take part in the knockout stages, which will be held at Welford Road before a first-team fixture. Tigers will also invite eight other clubs from the regional festivals to take part in the sister competition, the Prima Tiger Bowl, at Welford Road.
And the success of the competition – it has grown from just eight Leicestershire clubs taking part in its inaugural season to 72 teams from across the country last year – has resulted in a third tier, the Prima Tiger Shield, being introduced this season. The shield competition will give eight more teams the chance to play at Welford Road.
Tournament organiser Eric Barker said: “In all there were 72 clubs involved last year, around 1,000 players, more than 250 coaches and around three thousand parents.
“Add in referees, first aiders, safeguarding officers and all the volunteers from the host clubs and the Prima Tiger Cup is, most probably, the largest age group rugby event in England.”
