Euro stars on Tigers Rugby Courses

Plans are in the pipeline for Leicester Tigers to take their Rugby Course programme back to the British School in the Netherlands (BSN) after a successful camp last week.

Tigers coaches worked with almost 100 players aged between five and 18 during the week-long course while Tigers and Ireland fly-half Jeremy Staunton also joined the course to pass on his expert tips during a question and answer session.

It was Tigers’ first course in Holland, and Leicester and the BSN Rugby Club are already looking at running more Rugby Courses in the future.

Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: “We were delighted to link up with the BSN Rugby Club for what was an outstanding week.

“The facilities, the welcome we received and the enthusiasm of the players taking part were fantastic.

“We are looking forward to working with the club again and hope the expertise and advice we can give can help the players to continue to develop and succeed.”

Principal Martin Coles said: “The BSN Rugby Club is an example of how the BSN aims to offer a range of opportunities to all our students.

“The club is extraordinary in that it is entirely run by parent volunteers and is in fact the largest youth rugby club in The Netherlands – something the school takes real pride in.”

Tigers coaches were also at Leicester Forest RFC last week where 40 young players improved their game under the watchful eye of Tigers coaches while first-team players Ben Woods and Lee Robinson dropped in for a question and answer session.

The autumn half-term courses continue this week with Tigers coaches putting players through their paces at Diss RFC in Norfolk, the former club of Leicester and England centre Dan Hipkiss.

And already Tigers are taking bookings for the Rugby Course at Oakham RFC during the February half-term from February 21-25.
