European Champions Cup draw

Figure image
Leicester Tigers have been drawn alongside French champions Racing 92, Glasgow Warriors and Munster Rugby in the pool stages of the European Rugby Champions Cup for 2016/17.

The draw for the 2016/17 Champions Cup and Challenge Cup was held in Switzerland this afternoon, with Tigers preparing for a 20th season in the continent’s elite club competition.

Tigers have met each of their 2016/17 rivals in previous seasons, though not since 2000/01 in the case of Glasgow. That was the fifth meeting with the Scots – then known as Glasgow Caledonian – but they have not met since.

Warriors were Celtic League champions in 2014/15 but were knocked out of the Champions Cup in the pool stages last season after finishing behind Racing 92 and Northampton Saints.

Racing, of course, were Tigers’ opponents in the semi-final stages in 2015/16, when they triumphed 19-16 at the City Ground, Nottingham, while Tigers and Munster have met in three European seasons, including the pool stages in 2015/16 when Leicester won fixtures home and away.

Order of fixtures, and the confirmed dates and kick-off times for the opening four rounds will be announced by tournament organisers European Professional Club Rugby and their broadcast partners later this summer. The opening weekend is on October 14/15/16, after six rounds of Aviva Premiership league action.

The finals of the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup will be hosted in Edinburgh, where Tigers reached the final in 2009.

All home fixtures in the pool stages of the Champions Cup are included in Tigers season tickets. Places are still available for 2016/17, click here for more details.

Match ticket details will be confirmed soon.
