Newcastle Falcons have confirmed that Dean Richards has been appointed director of rugby for the start of next season.
Richards, who made more than 300 first-team appearances for Leicester Tigers before guiding the club to four league titles from 1999 to 2002 and back-to-back Heineken Cup Final wins as director of rugby, told the Falcons official website: “I am delighted to get the opportunity to join Newcastle Falcons. There are two reasons why I chose the Falcons – the supporters and Semore Kurdi’s ambition for the club. I met up with Semore and his vision made my mind up.”

Club owner Semore Kurdi said: “Dean needs no introduction in the world of rugby and it will be a true honour to have him at Newcastle Falcons next season.
