Leicester Tigers' Guinness Premiership clash with London Wasps is heading towards a 24,000 sell-out.

Demand to see the two most successful teams in English rugby go head-to-head at Welford Road on Saturday has been huge.

More than 22,000 tickets have already been snapped up and with limited availability supporters are being encouraged to secure their seat now.

David Clayton, Tigers managing director, said: “Tigers and Wasps games are always eagerly anticipated and there has been huge demand to see Saturday’s game.

“We ended last year with a capacity crowd for the game against Sale Sharks and are heading towards another 24,000 sell-out at Welford Road for the first game of 2010.

“A capacity crowd and another cracking Welford Road occasion would be a fantastic way to begin the year.”

Defending Guinness Premiership champions Tigers will go into the game fourth in the table following their 22-15 win at Saracens on Saturday. Wasps are just behind in fifth.

The game will see former Tigers wing Tom Varndell make his first return to Welford Road since his move to Wasps in the summer.

The game marks the start of the Tigers 8-Pack half season ticket, which are on sale now. Guarantee your place for the Wasps game and the Guinness Premiership fixtures against London Irish, Harlequins, Gloucester, Bath and leaders Saracens as well as Viadana in the Heineken Cup and Bath in the LV= Cup.
