Fixture update for new season

Fixture dates and kick-off times for the new Guinness Premiership season have now been agreed by the clubs. Leicester Tigers begin the campaign with a trip to Gloucester Rugby on Saturday, September 6 (3pm kick-off) and host the first home game of the season a week later against London Irish, also at 3pm.

Welford Road hosts two games in quick succession in the autumn, with the visit of London Wasps confirmed as a Friday evening kick-off on September 26, followed by Northampton Saints the following Wednesday.

All other home fixtures in the Guinness Premiership are on Saturdays at this stage.

“Our preference is always for a Saturday afternoon kick-off for our home games and the majority are at that time, though there may be some changes due to broadcasting requirements,” said Leicester Tigers managing director David Clayton.

“All Guinness Premiership clubs have been asked to play a midweek fixture on October 1 to help ensure the season reaches its climax before the British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa at the end of May. Therefore it seemed sensible to move the home game against London Wasps to a Friday evening to allow for sufficient recovery and preparation time for the players ahead of the midweek fixture against Northampton Saints the following week.”

Fixture clashes with Leicester City home games have resulted in Tigers bringing kick-off forward to 2.45pm for affected matches following discussions with the Safety Advisory Group.

The away games against Sale Sharks in November and Bristol Rugby in March have been confirmed as Friday evening fixtures.

Guinness Premiership matches to be televised live on Sky Sports are expected to be announced next week.

Now that fixture dates have been finalised, supporters are advised to keep an eye on the Tigers website for confirmation of match ticket details. Supporters interested in purchasing a season ticket for 2008/09 should contact the Tigers ticket office now.
