George Ford will gain more senior experience with Leeds Carnegie after moving to Headingley on loan.

Leicester Tigers fly-half Ford, 18, is set to play for Leeds in their RFU Championship game against London Scottish on New Year’s Day.

Leicester Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill said: “George Ford is going on loan to Leeds so he can get some game time.

“He is dual-registered with Leeds, like we do with Nottingham or any of the other clubs that we do with our young players. It’s a normal process.

“George is a rare talent. Ben Youngs and Tom Youngs and Dan Cole and all of these guys went on loan to Championship clubs and they will find their way through. They need to play to improve.”

Diccon Edwards, the Leeds Carnegie head coach, coached Ford during the Junior World Championships in Italy this summer, where England finished runners-up to New Zealand.

Edwards said: “He has a good work ethic and is a great trainer and I believe he will continue to set high standards and inspire our squad as we head into the play-offs.”
