Frank stands in Euro Challenge Cup Final

Former Leicester Tigers scrum-half Frank Murphy has been appointed as a match official for the European Challenge Cup Final next weekend.

Murphy made almost 50 first-team appearances for Tigers and started both the Premiership and European Finals at the end of his first season at the club in 2006/07 before moving to Connacht and then into refereeing.

He has been named as one of the assistant referees for the Challenge Cup Final between RC Toulon – who beat Tigers in the semi-final – and Bristol Bears in Aix-en-Provence on Friday, October 16.

Murphy refereed the semi-final between Bristol and Bordeaux-Bègles at Ashton Gate.

Welsh official Andrew Brace has been appointed referee for the Final with Murphy and fellow Irish official George Clancy as assistants.

Another former Tigers scrum-half, Christophe Ridley, is now a Premiership referee and has also gained experience in European tournaments.

Nigel Owens of Wales has been appointed to referee the Heineken Champions Cup Final – the seventh of his career – between Exeter Chiefs and Racing 92 next Saturday (October 17).
