A Big Boot triumph for Free Trade team

Locals from the Free Trade Inn in Sileby and young players from Uttoxeter RFC took on the Ultimate Big Boot at Leicester Tigers on Saturday.

Sponsored by De Montfort University, the Ultimate Big Boot tests the skills of teams during half-time in first-team games at Welford Road, challenging them to catch rugby balls fired high into the sky as part of part of our matchday entertainment.

This season there is also a £100 prize for the winner of the matchday head-to-head contest as well as a jackpot prize for a cleansweep of 10 catches.

As Tigers hosted Northampton Saints in the Premiership Rugby Cup, the group from Uttoxeter RFC made three catches but were beaten to the prize by their Free Trade Inn rivals who made four against The Ultimate Big Boot.

Phil Lewin was a member of the Free Trade team and said: “The pub landlord, Simon, thought it would be a good idea to put a team in. It’s a big rugby pub with lots of Tigers fans and a lot of guys who play locally. So we planned a group day out together and it was great to be involved, it was really good fun.”

Will Ball was part of the Uttoxeter team and said: “We’ve been doing all right in the season so far and I think we could’ve gone better than three catches. I was quite nervous being out there on the pitch but it was good fun.”

The Ultimate Big Boot is available for group bookings and all competitors receive a Big Boot T-shirt as a souvenir. All participants must be aged 14 or over. For more information on how to get involved, phone the group sales team on 0116 2171 216.
