Tigers lock Gregor Gillanders has been named in the starting XV for England U-19s' match against Italy at Sunbury today (kick-off 2.15pm).

He plays alongside Saracens second row Ben Thomas in a side to be captained by London Wasps No.8 Hugo Ellis.

Head coach Nigel Redman will be able to use seven of the 11 players named on the bench as he prepares the squad for the IRB World Championship taking place in Belfast in April. But the former Bath and England lock will be wary of the Italians, who scored some outstanding tries when they were beaten 34-26 by England in Rome last season.

Redman said: "Italy scored more points against us last year than any other team. They are passionate about the scrum and they have the flair and skill levels to cause us problems. We've got to be very careful. But this group are training well and they've worked very hard. I hope to see an edge to the way they play individually and collectively, and to see if they can put our attacking framework into practice against good opposition."

England also face Wales on March 2 at Aberavon (7.15pm) and France on March 24 at Henley (4pm) before going to the World Championship where their opponents in the pool stage are Argentina, Samoa and New Zealand.
