Girls-only Tigers Rugby Camp at half-term

Leicester Tigers are staging a girls-only Tigers Rugby Camp at Denstone College this half-term as part of the club’s commitment to creating opportunities through its women’s rugby programme.

The growth of girls’ rugby and the launch of a Tigers Women’s team are central to the club’s rugby programme and the community team are keen to welcome young players who want to develop their individual and team skills at a Tigers Rugby Camp.

The girls-only rugby camp takes place over two full days (Wednesday-Thursday, February 23-24, 9.30am-3.30pm) at Denstone College in Staffordshire, focusing on the development of core rugby skills and will cater to all levels of experience and ability in the under-13 to under-18 age groups.

Players will have the chance to work with experienced community coaches and enjoy the Tigers Rugby Camp experience alongside their peers.

Former England international Vicky Macqueen is head of the Tigers women’s rugby programme and said: “This is all about providing opportunities for girls to experience the game, develop their skills and enjoy themselves in the game of rugby.

“We want to create those opportunities for players of all abilities and by bringing them together over a couple of days with Tigers we hope to provide a platform for improvement as well as enjoyment.”

Places are available to book now.

There is something for everyone at the opening Tigers Rugby Camps of the year, based at SMB College Brooksby Campus near Melton Mowbray (February 15-18) and at Denstone College in Staffordshire (February 21-24), with both venues having alternative outdoor pitches and indoor facilities to ensure coaching can continue even in the most inclement weather.

As well as the girls-only option at Denstone, both venues offer Tag Rugby Camps to introduce and encourage the under-7 and under-8 girls and boys with three mornings of games and enjoyable activities to support the development of fundamental movement, rugby and social skills.

The four-day Core Camps run over four or five full days are for players in the under-9s to under-13s age-groups, following age-grade guidelines, with sessions based on fun activities, rugby skills and fundamental fitness.

Development Camps take place over three afternoon sessions for players in the under-14, 15 and 16 age groups, with a sharper focus on tactical and technical skills alongside athletic development, all based on the themes of the club’s junior academy and ACE college programmes.

All Tigers Rugby Camps focus on skills development in a fun and physically active setting with professional coaches from the Tigers community team.

Tigers Rugby Camps are priced from £55 and places are available to book now. Book online, in person at the Tigers ticket office or phone the team on 0116 319 8888 (option 2).
