Borthwick previews Prem clash with Wasps

Steve Borthwick says there is nobody looking beyond the final home game of the regular season at Leicester Tigers.

Despite already confirming a home semi-final in this season’s Gallagher Premiership, the approach of focusing solely on the next match will not change according to the Tigers Head Coach.

“I am very clear we have only ever focused on the next game. We keep it as simple as that,” said Borthwick.

Both sides last played a fortnight ago, with English sides unrepresented in the finals weekend of this season’s European competitions, and the Tigers boss says it was a chance to continue “to move forward” as a group.

“In a week without a game we focus very much on ourselves and how we move forward,” he said.

“This week the focus is Wasps, last week we focused on how we move forward as a team.

“I am really only interested in how we get better, that is my job as the head coach.”

Looking at Saturday’s opponents, the only side Tigers are yet to record a win over this season, Borthwick said: “Wasps are a really difficult team, with a great balance of power, speed and very, very good players pulling the strings.”

“They beat us earlier this season and have improved since then to be a better side now. It will be a big challenge on Saturday afternoon at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.”
