The Prima Tiger Cup is an annual tournament for under-10s teams from all over the country, all competing for the chance to emulate their rugby heroes and play at Welford Road.
Stamford Under-10s finished top of their pool at the second festival of this season’s competition, which was held at Mellish RFC on Sunday.
They beat Newark, Market Rasen, West Bridgford and drawing with Kesteven scoring 11 tries along the way.
Paviours, from Nottingham, won all four of their games, scoring 17 tries and conceding just one as they overcame Mellish, Derby, Nottingham Boots Corsairs and Southwell.
Both teams now qualify for the Super 16 rounds of the Prima Tiger Cup, which will be played at Welford Road before Tigers play Bath on December 1.
“The tournament was a great success and Mellish were fantastic hosts,” said Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager.
“All of the games were very competitive and played in a great spirit. Congratulations to all of the teams who took part, and to Stamford and Paviors who will join us at Welford Road for the Super 16s games to be played before Tigers take on Bath in December.”
Now in its 18th season, the Prima Tiger Cup is supported by Prima Solutions and is open to under-10s teams from across the country with more than 50 clubs entering this year.
Paviors and Stamford join Wisbech, Wymondham and Newmarket who have already qualified for the next stages, with the remaining Super 16 finalists to be decided at the final two festivals, to be held at Lutterworth (November 4) and Stoke rugby clubs (November 11).
The 16 teams will play a series of knockout games over three Tigers home fixtures with the grand finals being held on February 9 before the match against London Welsh in the Aviva Premiership.
