'Great Tigers support' will play its part in home double

Leicester Tigers will be looking for "an extra special effort" when Harlequins arrive at Welford Road on Friday evening (7.45pm).

Tigers sit in fifth place in the Aviva Premiership table coming up to two successive home games, against Quins this week and then Newcastle Falcons a week on Saturday.

“This is a big period of the season,” said Richard Cockerill, the Tigers director of rugby.

“We’re under a bit of pressure personnel-wise with players on international duty and we’ve had some bad luck with injuries in the squad, but we’re still in decent shape, we’ve got a good squad and there is a good spirit about the place.

“We need supporters to turn up as they always do and we need that extra special effort this weekend. We need them to turn up and shout and get behind us.

“We enjoy a great home support and we have a proud home record which we want to protect. These are times when everyone has to dig in to get through a difficult period.”

Cockerill expects Quins to travel with some confidence after victory in the LV= Cup at Welford Road just two weeks ago, but has been boosted by the return of George Chuter and Anthony Allen from England duty.

“We’ve got some good players, they’re training as hard as they can and the attitude has been spot-on,” Cockerill added. “We’ve got a good spirit, it is going to be a big night for us.”
