Grindal leads Tigers at Leeds

Scrum-half James Grindal will captain Leicester Tigers for the first time in the LV= Cup trip to Leeds Carnegie on Sunday.

Head coach Richard Cockerill said: “Playing in the Test windows means we have our senior internationals unavailable, but we have some excellent talent coming through the Academy and we’ve not been scared to call up a number of them into the first-team squad this season.

“We’ll have some young faces in the team, but we have got some good young English talent coming through. The development team have done well this year and there is a good opportunity to step up this weekend. It is nice to see those guys coming in.

“These young guys have gained experience in the Academy and ‘A’ League, some of them are involved in England Elite age-group squads and some have been gaining consistent game-time with Championship clubs.

“The Academy coaches are doing a great job and now I have a great opportunity to see some of these exciting young English players involved in a competitive senior fixture.”

Tigers host Newport Gwent Dreagons in the second fixture in this season's LV= Cup at Welford Road next Saturday, kick-off 3pm. Tickets are available now. Call the ticket office on 0844 856 1880 or book online.
