Matt Hampson and his Foundation have thanked people for their support as he makes his recovery from serious illness.

Leicester Tigers, the club’s players, officials and supporters, and the wider rugby community sent Matt their very best wishes after he was admitted to hospital before Christmas.

Matt, a life member of the Tigers, posted a photo on social media today (Thursday, January 11) to let people know he is on the road to recovery, with the caption: “Hambo back in the game again!”

Tommy Cawston, Matt Hampson Foundation chief executive, said: “We’ve missed that smiling face so much over the past few weeks so to see that photo and post this morning was just awesome.

“His mental strength and courage never ceases to amaze me. He’s had a very tough few weeks and I know he will be itching to get out of hospital and even more determined to Get Busy Living.

“The outpouring of support for him has been incredible and shows just how highly thought of and loved he is.

“I know he will have been incredibly touched by all the messages so from us all at the Foundation we thank you all for your support that you have shown him and his family over this difficult period.”

The Matt Hampson Foundation provides support for young people seriously injured through sport and is an official charity of the Leicester Tigers. This year will mark the opening of the Foundation’s Get Busy Living Centre at Burrough-on-the-Hill providing extra support facilities for beneficiaries and their families.
