The 24-year-old lock is due to make his first club start of the season having been a key part of the Scotland squad that reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in France earlier this month.
“I’d only done a couple of training sessions last week and was meant to have the week off but I was called in at the last minute,” says Hamilton. “I’m happy to come straight back in. I’m fairly young, so I’m not one of these players who needs two weeks off. It’s different for the England boys but, for me personally, I need a better season than I had last year when it comes to Leicester. I want to be playing in the big games and to do that I need to play well in every opportunity I get given.”
The first of those opportunities presents itself on Saturday afternoon, when Hamilton will be doing everything he can to help Tigers register their fourth win of the Guinness Premiership campaign.
“Playing in the Premiership is such an intense tournament. It was disappointing to lose the last two games but you could see that we were good enough to win both matches. They’ve been difficult games and it’s not as if the teams we’ve been playing have been any pushovers. Gloucester are playing brilliantly and Saracens are doing well too. We now need a win this weekend to get everything rolling again and get us back on a high.”
Tickets for the game against Worcester (kick-off 3pm) are available from the Tigers ticket office, or by calling 08701 28 34 30.
