Scott Hamilton has been voted Leicester Tigers Supporters' Player of the Season.

Hamilton finished top of the pile from a shortlist which also included Ben Youngs and Martin Castrogiovanni.

The New Zealand international has started every one of Tigers’ Guinness Premiership and Heineken Cup games this season and is the club’s leading try scorer with seven.

Hamilton said: “It was unexpected but it is an honour to win the vote of the supporters. It means a huge amount.”

The presentations evening in the Premiership Suite in the Caterpillar Stand was attended by 250 supporters.

They saw Ben Youngs win the supporters’ vote for Young Player of the Year to add to his Players’ Player of the Year Award.

Youngs said: “The supporters at the club are very important to us and I am very pleased to receive the award.”

Geoff Parling was named Newcomer of the Year.

Parling, who has made 27 appearances since his summer arrival at Welford Road, said: “It is a really easy place to settle into. You come here to be involved in the big end-of-season games and we are looking forward to the last push.”

Castrogiovanni’s try against London Irish in the Guinness Premiership game at Welford Road topped the fans’ vote for Try of the Season.

“It felt like 100 metres when I was running,” said Castrogiovanni. “It was a nice feeling to score and to celebrate.”

Lewis Moody received the Outstanding Service Award with Julian White and Sam Vesty the other nominees.

“I have had so many special memories of this place a little part of me will always be Leicester Tigers.” Moody said.
