James Hamilton is set to miss the rest of the 2008 RBS 6 Nations Championship after the injury that saw him stretchered from the field in the second half of Scotlands defeat by Ireland on Saturday at Croke Park.
The Leicester Tigers lock was taken to Dublins Mater Hospital for X-rays and, after initial fears that he had suffered a suspected broken leg, he was discharged to the care of the Scotland medical team. He has been examined by Scotland team doctor Sam Hewitt and surgeon Gordon Mackay.

Dr Hewitt said: The X-rays show that Jim has a badly sprained right ankle which is now immobilised in a boot. He will be subject to ongoing assessment but, at this stage, is unlikely to play any further part in this years Championship.
