Scott Hamilton says Leicester Tigers produced one of their best halves of the season in the 52-0 Heineken Cup win over Benetton Treviso.

Tigers scored six tries to lead their Italian opponents 40-0 at half-time, with wing Hamilton scoring the first two tries of the game.

Hamilton's scores were added to by captain Aaron Mauger and a penalty try as Tigers secured a try-scoring bonus point within the first 26 minutes. In doing so, Tigers secured the second-fastest try-scoring bonus point in Heineken Cup history.

New Zealand international Hamilton said: “We made a conscious effort to up the tempo, take some quick taps, get the ball around and tire them out.

“It certainly worked in the first 40 minutes. We were up 40-0 at half-time and it was one of our best halves of the season.”

Hamilton added: “It was good to score. As an outside back, if you put 50 points on you want to be crossing the line, that’s for sure. I think most of the back three managed to score, which was good.”

Tigers are next in action at Welford Road when Worcester Warriors are the visitors in the Guinness Premiership on Saturday, February 21 (kick-off 3pm). Tickets are available now by calling 08701 28 34 30.
