Hamilton try keeps Tigers in the hunt

Scott Hamilton says Leicester Tigers remain in control of their own Heineken Cup destiny despite Sunday's 26-20 defeat against Perpignan.

Tigers claimed a losing bonus point from their visit to the Stade Aime Giral that moved them joint top of Pool Three with two games remaining.

The bonus point was secured by Hamilton’s first try since joining Tigers. The wing finished off an excellent break by Julien Dupuy to bring Tigers to within three points of Perpignan after trailing 23-10 shortly after half-time.

Hamilton said: “The first try is always good to get out of the way but it was a very frustrating game. We tried hard but made a few silly mistakes.

“We are still in control of our own destiny. If we win the next two games we are through to the quarter-finals, so we can take that out of it.”

He added: “We got ourselves back in the game and we went close. Geordan (Murphy) made a break and we weren’t too far away.”

Tigers return to Guinness Premiership action on Saturday when Newcastle Falcons visit Welford Road for a 1.30pm kick-off. Tickets are available on 08701 28 34 30, online or at the Welford Road ticket office.
