Matt Hampson says "the fantastic support" he has received for a fundraising walk to this season's Guinness Premiership Final sums up the rugby community.

The Matt Hampson Trust fundraising committee is organising a charity walk from Rugby in Warwickshire, the birthplace of the game, to the Guinness Premiership Final at Twickenham.

The walk starts on Friday, May 8 and will arrive at in Richmond-on-Thames on Friday, May 15. All of the walkers will perform a parade around the pitch before the final.

The event has the backing of all 12 Guinness Premiership clubs, including Leicester Tigers, as well as British Waterways, Professional Rugby Limited and the Professional Rugby Players’ Association.

The walk, which was launched at Twickenham on Wednesday, is on behalf of the Matt Hampson Trust, SpecialEffect and other designated charities chosen by each participating club.

Hampson said: “I am really looking forward to it. It should be a really good craic.

“It’s something that sums up what support I have had from the rugby community. The contributions from the players, and everyone in rugby has been fantastic and it sums it up by having all 12 Guinness Premiership clubs involved.

“The guys do anything at the drop of a hat for me. They have been so great and it sums up the rugby community.

“Nobody is too big to help out. For instance, Johnno (Martin Johnson) said ‘I will be there, no problems'.

“I have had Lawrence Dallaglio and big names like that taking part as well.

“It will be nice for the fans because they can come along, see their heroes, have a few beers as well and it will be a really good event."
