There will be a new name on the Prima Tiger Cup this season after Saturday's Welford Road semi-finals saw Market Harborough book a final showdown with Silhillians.

Harborough made it through to their first final with 4-0 semi-final win over Wolverhampton before Tigers’ 33-11 Guinness Premiership win over Gloucester Rugby on Saturday.

Harborough head coach Graham Cook said: “The look on the children’s faces was unbelievable. They are ecstatic. They have done unbelievably well to get this far.”

Solihull-based Silhillians joined them in their first Prima Tiger Cup final after a 3-0 victory over 2008 winners Nottingham.

Phil Kinder, the Silhillians team doctor, said: “We couldn’t have asked for any more. Both teams played superbly and it was a really good game.

“They have loved the experience of playing at Welford Road and can’t wait to come back for the final.”

The coaches of semi-finalists Nottingham and Wolverhampton said they were proud of their teams after reaching the last four.

Wolverhampton coach David Duroe said: “It has been good to get this far and I am proud of them. They have done very well and have enjoyed it.”

Nottingham head coach Lee Marvin added: “I said to the boys that more than 50 teams have played in this season’s Prima Tiger Cup. We have got to the last four, which is some achievement. I am really proud of the guys.”

The Prima Tiger Cup is supported by Loughborough-based Prima Solutions and is open to under-10s teams from across the country. Now in its 15th year, this season’s tournament attracted more than 50 entries when it began in November with a series of festivals.

The final between Silhillians and Harborough will be played at Welford Road on Saturday, April 24 before Tigers play Harlequins in the Guinness Premiership.

Tigers community manager Scott Clarke said: “We had more than 50 teams enter the Prima Tiger Cup this season so all four semi-final teams can feel very proud of their achievements.

“The semi-finals provided a great exhibition and it was brilliant to see such support at Welford Road for the players.”
