He's a top man Marcos Ayerza, and it appears the majority of Tiger supporters feel the same.Marcos was a popular winner of the Player of the Year award, as voted by supporters at Welford Road, and received a standing ovation when his name was read out as this season’s winner.
In his testimonial year, Marcos topped the voting and his name will join the ranks of Martin Johnson, Martin Corry, Alesana Tuilagi,, Aaron Mauger, Juian Salvi and Vereniki Goneva as Player of the Year.
One of the things The Tig – who had Marcos, Owen Williams and Mathew Tait as a personal top three picks from the season – loves most about Marcos is his all-round appeal.
It appears that whoever talks about the Argentinian prop, whether it is a commentator, journalist, player or fan, everyone appreciates what he does. Everyone sings from the same song sheet, for or against, professional or rank amateur, which tells you everything you need to know about the quality of the Tigers star.
Players appreciate the technique and the undoubted strength, they get a feel for what the reputation is based on. As supporters, we see the more obvious, the work done in the daylight, hands on the ball, clearing the rucks, as well as enjoying his part in the collective effort of the set-piece.
The quality of the man is illustrated by the grin, the handshake, the humility, the genuine passion for the Tigers shirt. That’s another reason we love him.
And he’s signed a new contract.
Well done Marcos.
