Leicester Tigers will play their Heineken Cup quarter-final against Stade Francais at Welford Road on the weekend of March 30/31 and April 1. Though the club could expect a bigger attendance and bigger commercial returns by moving the game elsewhere, the Tigers board of directors have listened to the views of players and supporters, and have decided to host Stade on home soil.
The board recognised and appreciated the views of many supporters that they will pay more on a one-off basis to keep the tie at Welford Road.
As Stade Francais are entitled to 25 per cent of the stadium's entire ticket allocation, there will be a strict timetable of when tickets will be available for Tigers supporters, with priority going to season ticket holders. The match is not covered by season tickets, and full season ticket holders must apply for their ticket as quickly as possible.
"We accept that there may be some disappointed supporters but the over-riding opinion within the club was to play the game at Welford Road," said Tigers managing director David Clayton. "We can accommodate the vast majority of season ticket holders but we have to say it is first-come first-served if we want to play here while also adhering to the tournament regulations and satisfying our opponents."
Tickets will go on sale from 9am on Friday January 26 to full season ticket holders only, with tickets limited to one per season ticket book, subject to availability. These tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Guinness season ticket holders and members can apply to join the waiting list from Monday, February 19 in the event of any tickets being returned.
