Jonah Holmes has capped off a breakthrough 2018 in style, winning the Round 10 Citizen TRY of the Week for the Leicester speedster's second score in the bonus point win over Harlequins at Welford Road.
Holmes' first of two tries in his return to action after a week off with concussion came on the end of a beautifully executed backline move by the Tigers side, with the right winger popping up at the perfect time to run on to a well weighted pass by fly-half George Ford deep inside the 'Quins half and stroll over.
However, it was the Welsh international's second that claimed top honours from Round 10 and he may well owe a pint on New Year's Eve to team mate Tatafu Polota-Nau after the Australian hooker swooped on a batted back, loose ball from a Harlequins re-start to rampage his way almost 50m before offloading for Holmes to race away and dot the ball down.
"That's a very nice Christmas gift to receive," said a smiling Holmes, when told of his win upon returning to training with his team mates after two days off over the Christmas break.
"I probably owe Tatafu for the set up, his run was amazing and his pace was brilliant."
The win is the second Try of the Week prize for Leicester this season after Manu Tuilagi claimed the honour in Round 2 for the English international's barnstorming, individual effort to crash his way through the Newcastle Falcons defence on the halfway line before outpacing former Tiger Niki Goneva to score.
Injury and lack of game time prevented Holmes from making a big splash in his debut year with Tigers last season but, after taking his opportunities when selected so far during the 2018/19 campaign, the outside back has been a revelation within the Leicester ranks and gone on to make his international debut for Wales during the recent Autumn internationals against Tonga in Cardiff.
