Home crowd sets another Premiership record

An attendance of 23,828 for the Leicester Tigers match against Newcastle Falcons set a Premiership Rugby record for a Friday evening fixture.

After welcoming 25,849 capacity crowds for successive home games against Wasps and Northampton in the two previous rounds, Tigers hosted another bumper attendance for the visit of the Falcons in the final home game of the 2018/19 season.

The figure beat the previous best for a Friday fixture at the venue – the 21,510 for a victory over Harlequins in October 2014 – by more than 2,000 tickets.

Tigers now hold the best 18 attendance figures for Premiership games held on a Friday evening and only the 24,000 full house for the historic win over world champions South Africa in November 2009 has attracted a bigger audience for a Friday night game at Welford Road than this week’s meeting with Dean Richards and the Falcons.

Fans will also travel in force for the final game of the league programme next Saturday when Tigers face Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell Stadium. Tickets are still available direct from the host club website at www.salesharks.com
