Fly-half Ian Humphreys has agreed a new contract with Leicester Tigers. The 24-year-old arrived at Welford Road from Irish club Belfast Harlequins in the summer of 2005 and made his debut in the early part of last season. He has also played a prominent part in the success of the development side in the Guinness A League and has now scored more than 100 points in senior rugby with Tigers.

"It is still early in the season but as soon as the club said they were keen to keep me there was no hesitation on my behalf," said Humphreys. "I am delighted to get a new contract and I am looking forward to the future with the club.

"What I was hoping for this season was to get a few chances, which I have had, and I have also enjoyed my first involvement in the Heineken Cup. For the future, I want to stay involved in the first-team squad and at some stage hope to get a good run of games. Also, it is everybody's ultimate ambition to play international rugby and if I am playing well at a high level here then I might get noticed."

Tigers head coach Pat Howard said: "Ian has progressed well this season and we are very happy that he is staying on at the club. On the back of some very good performances, particularly in the Guinness Premiership at London Wasps during the autumn internationals, we are very hopeful that Ian will realise all of his natural talent over the coming years."
