Long-term injury absentees Matt Toomua, Manu Tuilagi and Logovi’i Mulipola are all making progress in their return to fitness as the Leicester Tigers squad step up their preparation for the new season.
International trio Toomua, Tuilagi and Mulipola were all knee injury victims during 2016/17 and are working through their rehabilitation work ahead of a new campaign.
“Matt Toomua has been back involved with the main group for the first time in a long while,” said head coach Matt O’Connor. “Manu and Logo are also making decent progress and it’ll be good to get them all back fully involved and in contention to play when they are ready.”
O’Connor says the whole squad had made a good start to pre-season and provided “a great base to work from” in the build-up to a new Aviva Premiership campaign which kicks off with a home fixture against Bath Rugby on Sunday, September 3.
The bulk of the Tigers squad reported back to work last week, with only the players involved in summer Test series still enjoying their summer break.
“It’s been really pleasing so far,” said O’Connor. “The guys have come back in good shape and that has given us a great base to work from.
“We’ve brought some new blokes in too and they’ve settled in well and we can all build from here.”
