Tom Croft scored two tries in his Test debut for the British & Irish Lions but they lost 26-21 in the first Test against South Africa in Durban on a busy international weekend for Leicester Tigers players.

Harry Ellis was among the unused Lions replacements and he will start at scrum-half in the match against Emerging Springboks in Cape Town on Tuesday.

Fellow scrum-half Julien Dupuy made a second successive start for France in New Zealand on Saturday.

After victory in the first Test last week, France were beaten 14-10 in rain-lashed Wellington. Dupuy kicked a conversion following a Cedric Heymans try before giving way to Dimitri Yachvili during the second half.

Ben Youngs played in a second successive IRB Junior World Championship Final but England Under-20s were beaten 44-28 by New Zealand. Tigers colleague Jack Cobden was used as replacement during the second half.

Johne Murphy ended a successful season for Irish rugby by picking up a winner’s medal in the Churchill Cup Final.

Tigers colleagues Ben Woods and Tom Varndell had the consolation of scoring tries for England Saxons as Ireland A triumphed 49-22, with Murphy scoring the fifth of six tries in front of national coach Declan Kidney. Tigers prop Dan Cole also started in the England front row.
