International round-up: Scottish stars triumph in WXV

As if the nation of South Africa weren't enjoying enough celebrations, the country also recently hosted the first ever WXV 2 tournament, with four Leicester Tigers players helping Scotland lift the trophy.

The party started Saturday night in Cape Town, after Italy failed to beat the USA by a significant enough margin, meaning the Scots clinched the title on points difference.

Scotland won their final game of the tournament by 38 - 7 against a dogged Japan team that were leading 7 - 0 until two minutes into overtime in the first half. However, a stirring second half fight saw the side run in four tries unopposed after the break to clinch a significant margin of victory, putting a pressure on the Italians that ultimately proved too much to overcome.

Leah Bartlett, Francesca McGhie and Elis Martin all helped their side to victory in that final pool stage match, while Eva Donaldson was also involved throughout the tournament, with all four players revelling in the celebrations as Scotland clinched the title.

The game their eyes were glued to, Italy taking on the USA, also featured three Tigers, so our Scotland contingent will be keen to buy a beer for their Eagle compatriots.

Prop Keia Mae Sagapolu, flanker Tahlia Brody and full-back Tess Feury all started the match as Italy triumphed 30-8.

Five of the USA's points in this match came from Tahlia Brody's try, her first for her country, the back-row capping off an outstanding tournament.

Sandwiched between these two key clashes, versatile forward Catha Jacobs started at no. 8 for South Africa as they defeated Samoa by 33 - 7.

The powerful Jacobs scored a try herself, running it in from out wide to touch down in the 12th minute of the match.

After a fantastic maiden WXV tournament, all eight of the players involved will now journey to the East-Midlands, some for the first time, to join up with the Tigers women's team ahead of the side's first foray into Allianz Premiership Women's Rugby.
