Martin Johnson will lead another Leicester Tigers team this week when he is joined by former colleagues Graham Rowntree and Matt Poole in an indoor rowing challenge as a fund-raiser for the Matt Hampson Trust.

England's World Cup-winning captain and his two former Tigers teammates will face competition from a Nottingham Rowing Club squad and a line-up from PricewaterhouseCoopers in a half-marathon indoor rowing race.

The teams aim to raise thousands of pounds through sponsorship for two local charities, the Matt Hampson Trust and the Nottingham Schools Project which promotes healthy living in youngsters through participation in indoor rowing.

The competition is being staged on Tuesday, March 13, at PricewaterhouseCoopers' Castle Donington offices.

As well as the competition, staff at PricewaterhouseCoopers will be holding a raffle with some great rugby prizes and a rowing machine donated by Concept 2 that will be autographed by Tigers players.

Johnson said: "The race promises to be good fun and, while rowing isn't our first sport, we're proud to be taking part in an event that will raise much-needed funds for the Matt Hampson Trust."

Andy Lyon, senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the East Midlands, said: "We're really looking forward to the race. The team have been training hard and we've been coached by two-time Olympic coach Terry O'Neil, so it should be quite a close call! This is a fantastic way to raise money for two great charities and we are grateful to the Leicester Tigers, Nottingham Rowing Club and Concept 2 for getting involved in this worthwhile event."
