New England team manager Martin Johnson will be at Welford Road on Saturday to officially launch the Leicester Relay for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The former Tigers second row and World Cup-winning captain will be joining hundreds of others in a ground-breaking 24-hour walk which hopes to raise £100,000 for charity.

The event, which is the first of its kind in Leicester, requires participating teams to walk around the Welford Road pitch in relay as part of a major fundraising initiative from Cancer Research UK.

There are already more than 30 teams competing, including a Tigers Extras team and one from the club shop at Welford Road.

Relay for Life Leicester will also feature live music from local bands throughout Saturday, craft and food markets, face painting, a raffle and a silent auction for signed Tigers memorabilia and a fantastic star prize of a weekend in a Porsche

Tigers players will also be dropping in to offer their support, sign autographs and have their photos taken with participants.

As well as exhibitions about cancer, cancer detection and cancer awareness, doctors will also be on site to offer free check ups in the Welford Road changing rooms.

Gates open at 11.30am on Saturday, with an opening ceremony and laps due to begin at 12 noon. To register your team, please call Paula Robertson on 07725 113 427 or email [email protected]
