Leicester Tigers stars past and present will run a series of specialist skills sessions aimed at helping young players improve their game.

Craig Newby, Boris Stankovich and Jeremy Staunton will lead a Welford Road Masterclass each, a day of specialist coaching which are designed for players aged U11 to U16.

Stankovich will lead the first Welford Road Masterclass on Tuesday, May 28, which will focus on the work of the forwards including the scrum and lineout.

Stankovich has made 102 appearances for Tigers, won two Premiership titles and the LV= Cup and captained the team for the first time in the LV= Cup tie at Exeter in January 2011.

His former Tigers teammate Newby, who retired from rugby at the start of the season, will return to Welford Road on Wednesday, May 29 to run a breakdown and contact skills masterclass.

Newby, a former All Black, made 84 appearances for Tigers, won two Premiership titles and the LV= Cup and captained Leicester at the 2011 Aviva Premiership Final.

And Jeremy Staunton, the former Ireland international who was part of the 2010 Premiership-winning squad, will run a kicking clinic on Thursday, May 30.

Staunton scored 345 points in 54 appearances for Tigers, including five tries. The former Munster, Harlequins, London Wasps and London Irish man scored 23 points in a Wasps victory at Welford Road in 2008/09, a record for any opposition player in a league match at the venue. He also collected a Powergen Cup winner’s medal with Wasps in 2006.

Welford Road Masterclasses are for players in U11s to U16s age groups and are an excellent opportunity to learn and develop position-specific skills.

Players attending a masterclass will receive a free junior ticket to an allocated first-team game at Welford Road next season as well as lunch on the day, a Rugby Camp T-shirt, a water bottle, a rugby ball and free membership to the Junior Tigers Club.
