The Tig is just happy to see the opening game is at Welford Road. There’s nothing worse than that feeling when you build up hopes for kick-off, only to find you’ll have to wait an extra seven days to use your spot on the terrace or sit back in your usual seat at Welford Road.
Exeter Chiefs are the opening-day visitors and it’s great to see them back again after such a strong showing in their first season in the top flight. Their supporters were very welcoming on both trips down there last season and they’ll be looking forward to coming to Tigers too.
After Exeter on September 3, it’s on the road to Wasps and then Newcastle – as one wag mentioned on Tigers twitter this week there’s even a good chance of some sunshine at that time of year – before Saracens come looking for their third consecutive win at Welford Road.
World Cup selections will make it a tough start for Tigers, but the additions to the squad during the summer, and the extra experience gained by some of the younger faces last season, provide hope for another big season.
After the opening game, what else did The Tig look for – Saints at home in December, a short Christmas trip to Worcester, a New Year holiday game against new-look Sale, and Bath at home in Round 22.
There’s still details to come from Europe and the LV= Cup, but the countdown has started. Go Tigers.
