The Kings of the North tournament kicked off on Saturday with Sale Sharks winning the opening game away to Newcastle Falcons.Sale ran in six tries in a 36-22 win over the Falcons at Kingston Park on Saturday, with the hosts scoring three tries of their own.
The visitors raced into a 12-0 lead with tries from Nev Edwards and John O’Donnell. Newcastle hit back through Chris Harris’s score, before Edwards restored Sale’s 12-point lead with his second try.
Brett Connon’s penalty for Newcastle left Sale 19-10 ahead at the break.
The sides exchanged tries, Craig Willis going over for the Falcons and Mark Jennings going under the posts for the Sharks. Sale winger Tim Jeffers added a fifth try before Mark Easter finished off a driving maul to move Sale 36-17 ahead before Falcons finished the scoring through Rob Vickers’s late try.
