Kings of the North kicks off

The Kings of the North tournament kicked off on Saturday with Sale Sharks winning the opening game away to Newcastle Falcons.Sale ran in six tries in a 36-22 win over the Falcons at Kingston Park on Saturday, with the hosts scoring three tries of their own.   The visitors raced into a 12-0 lead with tries from Nev Edwards and John O’Donnell. Newcastle hit back through Chris Harris’s score, before Edwards restored Sale’s 12-point lead with his second try.   Brett Connon’s penalty for Newcastle left Sale 19-10 ahead at the break.   The sides exchanged tries, Craig Willis going over for the Falcons and Mark Jennings going under the posts for the Sharks. Sale winger Tim Jeffers added a fifth try before Mark Easter finished off a driving maul to move Sale 36-17 ahead before Falcons finished the scoring through Rob Vickers’s late try.   Leicester Tigers begin their campaign this Saturday away to Sale before welcoming Newcastle to Welford Road on Saturday, September 19 (3pm).
