The Leicester Tigers community team hosted the Land Rover Rugby Cup at Oakham RFC this weekend for teams at under-11 and under-12 level.

The Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup, now in its 10th year, has seen more than 70,000 children take part over the years in both age groups across the country in areas linked to all the Premiership clubs.

The under-11 teams played some fantastic competitive rugby in keeping with the game’s ethos on Sunday in the Tigers leg of the event and Bury St Edmunds RFC were randomly drawn from all the teams to represent Tigers at the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final at Twickenham on May 26.

Joining them at Twickenham and representing Tigers in the under-12 age group will be Kesteven RFC who emerged on the day as winners in a tough competitive group of games.

Tigers centres Matt Smith and Manu Tuilagi dropped in on the event as supporters and to pass on some playing tips and were very impressed with the skill levels on display in all the games played.

Bury St Edmunds under-11s and Kesteven under-12s will have an unforgettable day as they take part in a lap of honour at half-time in the Aviva Premiership final courtesy of Land Rover.

Steve Hanna, community rugby manager at Tigers said: “We would like to sincerely thank Oakham RFC who have been excellent hosts once again.

“They have a great team of volunteers whose hospitality and efforts in supporting this event are greatly appreciated. It’s not lost on us the amount of time and work that goes into supporting such an event and Oakham have been great throughout.

“Additionally I would like to thank Premiership Rugby and Land Rover for their support in making the day as memorable for the players as it has been. And finally to thank all the teams in the Tigers Family for making the day what it was, the standard of play and behaviour on and off the field was exceptional.”
