Leatigaga: ‘A-game’ required as Tigers face Chiefs

Leicester Tigers must bring their ‘A-game’ as they launch back into the Gallagher Premiership against Exeter Chiefs, says Nephi Leatigaga.

And, fresh from scoring his first try in club colours, the Tigers tighthead previewed what promises to be a physical contest in Round 6 at Welford Road this Saturday (December 21, 3.00pm).

Geordan Murphy’s men made it four European wins out of four with a trip to Rugby Calvisano last time out, with summer signing Leatigaga crashing over for a late score at the Pata Stadium.

“Calvisano certainly challenged us, with slow ball and a lot of kicking in the game,” he said.

“There was a lot of set-piece, too, but that’s my job – it’s always scrum first, as we say, and it was good for us to win a few scrums over there.”

The Tigers squad must now park their European campaign ahead of a block of three league rounds.

Exeter – Premiership finalists earlier in 2019 – are first up, before a trip to Twickenham to face Harlequins and an opening home match of the New Year with Bristol Bears.

Leatigaga explained the squad have eyes only for the challenge of the Chiefs this weekend.

“We’ve trained hard, and we know what they bring,” he continued. “We will need to dictate the game on our terms.

“Exeter have got a really big pack, so we’ve got to make sure that we bring it [up front] on Saturday.

“We want to bring our A-game.”
