Mathew Tait, Kieran Brookes and Niall Morris took a specialist training session at Leek RUFC after the club won the QBE Rugby Pro competition.

Players in the Leek under 13 and under 14 sides trained with the Tigers stars on Sunday courtesy of QBE, the business insurance specialist.

Andrew Smith, Leek under 13 and under 14 team manager, said: “The training session taken by the Tigers players was a great success as our team got the opportunity to develop a number of new skills.

“Hopefully this will greatly benefit the squad as the season reaches its climax. We are very grateful to QBE for this fantastic experience and the new training equipment.”

Tigers and England centre Tait added: “I think that QBE Rugby Pro is a fantastic initiative and it is great to be able to give something back to the grassroots game.

“It has been fun working with Leek RUFC and I hope that the access to professional players and coaches during the specialist training today will inspire them further.”

Leek is one of twelve grassroots rugby clubs across the country to be awarded a training session with three Premiership Rugby players. In addition, the club received £1,000 worth of training equipment.

The prizes were awarded to clubs who demonstrated how winning the training session and equipment would benefit the development of the club. The judges were impressed by Leek’s ambition and inclusive selection policy that allows a large number of kids to enjoy the game. Their enthusiasm and desire to improve also shone through in their entry.

The training session provided the Leek under 13 and under 14 teams with the rare opportunity to learn from professionals and pick up specialist advice on core rugby skills and game play. This was followed by a meet and greet session with the Leicester Tigers players.
