Dusty Hare says he is privileged to be included in the Leicester Tigers Walk of Legends after seeing his name become the first to be laid on the approach to the new Caterpillar Stand at Welford Road.

World record points scorer Hare was voted in to the Legends XV at full-back by readers of the Leicester Mercury. The former England and British Lions international made 394 Tigers appearances between 1976 and 1989 and scored 4,507 of his world record 7,191 points in Tigers colours.

The finishing touches are now being put to the Caterpillar Stand before it is used for the first time for Tigers’ Guinness Premiership game against Newcastle Falcons on Saturday, September 19, and Hare was given a sneak preview of the Walk of Legends as his was laid on the approach to the new facility.

Hare said: “The Walk of Legends looks very impressive. It is a privilege to be in here and to start it off.

“I think the Caterpillar Stand looks fantastic. Leicester Tigers have always been at the forefront and again the board have taken the decision to put this new stand in place and it looks impressive.”

Hare will be joined in the Walk of Legends by the likes of Martin Johnson, Rory Underwood and Sir Clive Woodward.

“Leicester Tigers has such a great history and it is nice to honour some of the famous names from the past in the redevelopment of the stadium,” Hare said.
