Lichfield Ladies are excited by the opportunity to play in the first Women's Premiership fixture to be held at Welford Road this Sunday.Welcoming the first-ever Women’s Premiership fixture to be hosted at the club’s home represents part of the Leicester Tigers Foundation’s commitment to women’s and girls’ rugby.   The fixture will take place after Tigers host Harlequins in the opening home game of the new Aviva Premiership season. Tigers are scheduled to kick-off at 2pm with the women’s match set for 4.15pm.   Becky Williams, director of rugby at Lichfield, said: “It’s absolutely amazing for the game and for Lichfield to have the match at Welford Road.   “The support from Leicester Tigers has been phenomenal and the communication from all departments has been superb in organising this fixture.   “It’s exciting for the Women’s Premiership as well, it makes it more accessible because it’s a bit of an unknown, so for rugby supporters who don’t know about women’s rugby, we get to showcase what it’s all about.”   Lichfield Ladies have a young but ambitious squad with the average age of just 20, including a number who have only recently turned 18. This season’s squad does, though, include players who represent England Under-20s as well as the senior side, including World Cup winners Emily Scarratt and Natasha Hunt.   Both teams are looking forward to the occasion this weekend and Williams admits the Lichfield squad were “shocked” when they were informed of the venue change last week.   “I kept it quiet until last week and it was a big surprise for all of them,” she said. “They were overwhelmed at the opportunity to play at such an iconic ground and in front of a Tigers crowd. It is a bit daunting but we’re all very excited.”   Lichfield are currently fifth in the Premiership which includes teams from Aylesford Bulls, Bristol Ladies, Darlington Mowden Park Sharks, Richmond Women, Saracens Women, Wasps Ladies and Worcester Ladies.   For more information on the Women’s Premiership or to find the fixtures and results for this season please visit www.womenspremiership.co.uk
