Hanro Liebenberg was happy to be back in the green, red and white of Leicester Tigers after making a successful return to action for the club in the Gallagher Premiership win over Wasps at Welford Road.

Speaking to LTTV after the match, Liebenberg said: “It’s good to be back, back with the team … can’t ask for a better comeback after injury, it was a good performance from the guys out there tonight.”

The back-rower also admitted the weather complimented the Tigers pack, making it a hard day out for the backs.

“The easier day for the forwards,” he said with a smile.

“The forwards had to grind it out … it was going to be won by the forwards.

“Not the best conditions for rugby … you have to play what you get.

“We adapted well in the second-half.

Leicester lost lock Tomas Lavanini to a yellow card, which Liebenberg said the side reacted to well in a bid to keep things “clear” and keep their “heads” while a man down.

“It was about keeping the rucks clear … we needed to keep our heads,” said Liebenberg.

Tigers travel to Sale Sharks in Round 11, where a handful of fellow countrymen of Liebenberg’s ply their trade and the South African forward is excited for the challenge.

“It will be good to see the guys,” he said.

“I know they will come out firing.”
