Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team kept in touching distance of the leading pack following a second fourth-placed finish heading into the final round of Super Series Division One fixtures.

Tigers missed out on third place following a 57-41 defeat to London Crusaders in the third/fourth place playoff as the club secured another five points out of a maximum of ten.

The weekend started well for LTWR who were drawn in Pool B alongside RGC 1404, Yorkshire Lions and London Storm. Tigers beat RCG 54 points to 39 before dispatching Yorkshire Lions 59-33 setting up a top of the table clash against storm.

Having secured a semi-final place, bragging rights were up for grabs and it was Storm who came out on top beating Tigers by ten points on their way to a 53-43 win.

Tigers faced current league leaders West Coast Crash in the third semi-final on Finals day and were unlucky to go down 58-56 with just two points in it.

The club finished the day in fourth place and will now look towards the third and final weekend of league fixtures, which will take place on March 7-8 with the venue yet to be determined.

Assistant coach and LTWR chairman Rob Tarr said following the weekend: “The games we lost were very close against Storm and Crash and so we can be proud of the improvements from the first weekend.

“We continued with our ethos of rotating our bench and developing our lines and the coaches will now study the footage from the weekend and breakdown all the positive strategies to take forward to the final league weekend in March."

Next up for four of Tigers GB players is the Quad Nations taking place in Leicester from February 21. Find out more details by clicking here.
