Lutts sit second in Ultimate Big Boot table

A squad of players from Lutterworth RFC moved into second place in The Ultimate Big Boot for the 2017/18 season with an impressive showing at Welford Road on Christmas Eve.

Sponsored by De Montfort University, the Ultimate Big Boot allows groups to show their skills in front of a big Tigers crowd, challenging them to catch balls fired high into the sky as part of the half-time entertainment.

The team from Lutterworth made six catches to win their head-to-head with a young squad from Leicester Forest RFC who caught three of their attempts in front of a 24,000-plus crowd at the home of the Leicester Tigers.

Forest player James Curtis said: “We’re a really tight team and this is helping us get closer together and bond. It’s good to get to do this in front of so many people. I hope to be a Tigers player when I’m older, so the experience is vital.

“We knew we were doing this for about a week and we were jumping up and down with joy.”

After seeing his team move to within one catch of table leaders Lincoln, Lutterworth’s Luke Haywall said: “It means a lot, the team put on a good shift and six is a good score.

“We’ve been really excited to come out and do this. We hadn’t done any preparation, we just went out there and did our best.”

Lincoln Rugby Club’s under-16 team remain on top of the leaderboard in The Ultimate Big Boot this season after scoring seven catches at half-time in the Tigers win over Gloucester in September.

The Ultimate Big Boot is available to Tigers group bookings. Participants must be aged 14 or over. All participants receive a Big Boot T-shirt as a souvenir. For more information, phone the Tigers Group Days team on 0116 2171 216.
