Fans have helped to raise thousands of pounds for the Leicester Tigers Foundation with mascot Welford completing the London Marathon.

Leicester Tigers club mascot Welford had an early night following the win over Saracens on Saturday with the challenge of running the marathon distance the following day.

Many fans spotted the mascot on the television coverage and on the course, with supporters making donations to raise money towards the funding of the Foundation's work within the local community.

Starting off at 10.50am, Welford took on every step of the 26 miles around the capital, finally finishing with a time of six hours and 13 minutes.

Sam Swift, Leicester Tigers Foundation manager, congratulated Welford and said: "Everyone at the Foundation would like to express our sincere gratitude and congratulations on Welford’s fantastic achievement, completing the London Marathon 2021.

"Welford’s efforts have helped the Foundation to raise £7,000 to this point, which will go a long way to adding sustainability to our SEND programmes, which include supporting the Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team, as well as offering sessions and guidance to some of the most vulnerable people within the Tigers family and beyond.

"Thank you to everyone who has donated to this great cause and if you would still like to congratulate Welford our Justgiving page is still active as well as a Text donate option."
