Massive men in place for future

Figure image
It's fantasy rugby time of the year again, when transfer talk is thick in the air.

Leicester Tigers will of course be linked with many big names from home and abroad, but Cockers has said they are unlikely to be in the market for any megabucks new signings this year.

Well, in case you missed it, Tigers have already made some massive signings for next season.

There is not a team in the land that would not have liked to sign Geoff Parling or Ben Youngs. Or Steve Mafi, Tom Youngs, Graham Kitchener or Julian Salvi.

But that is exactly what Tigers have done this year.

If The Tig was sat behind the manager’s desk in a virtual reality Fantasy League stadium and browsing through the names of potential signings, chances are that every single one of those names would have been near the top of any Fantasy League ‘wanted list’.

Three current England internationals, one potential England international, one of the English game’s best specialists and a blossoming all-round talent, they’re just about the first additions you would like make to your squad if you were in charge.

And they’re all comfortable in the Tigers environment, they’ve all developed within it and are all men with plenty of miles left on the clock.

Cockers and Co have not just signed one of them as a big name for next year, but signed all of them. And not just for one year either, but into the future.

We all hate to see favourites leave the Tigers Family and no doubt there will be a few faces missing when the guys return for pre-season in the summer. But just holding together that core of players is a statement of intent, not just to the home crowd but to the rest of the directors of rugby in the Aviva Premiership. And they’re ours, all ours.
