Match Highlights: Young Tigers go down to Worcester

One of the youngest side's in Leicester Tigers travelled to Worcester in the opening round of the 2019/20 Premiership Cup to take on the Warriors at Sixways Stadium.

A much more experienced Warriors outfit proved too strong for the young Tigers side in the first hit-out of the new campaign, recording a 57-23 victory in front of their home crowd.

The Tigers squad, including eight debutants and 16 players to have come through the club's Academy system, fought bravely against the Warriors in warm, summer-like conditions but were unable to match the experience and power of the Worcester team.

Speaking post-match, Tigers assistant coach Mike Ford was positive despite a disappointing result to kick-off the new season.

“We know we’ve got a lot of players away with the World Cup – we’re only second behind Saracens – and Cup games are all about making our squad depth stronger and having a look at these debutants and youngsters.

“It’s also looking [ahead] at the first game of the year when we come back here to Worcester, ready to play in the Premiership, because that’s our target this year.”
